The Evil Within Review - Delightfully Scary In Every Way

The Evil Within Review - Delightfully Scary In Every Way

'The Evil Within' is filled with terror straight from the off and we could not get enough of it!

We play as Sebastian Castellanos, a detective of Krimson City Police Department, who has fallen into a strange world driven by Ruvik. Ruvik is troubled man with a troubled past. Ruvik's primary goal is to continue his research into the human mind to seek his revenge!

Ruvik's world is overwhelmed with foes that truly question the sanity of both Sebastian and Ruvik. Leaving your heart pumping for most of the game but gave a sense of accomplishment once complete!

Good Points

Graphics

The graphics in this game prove that next-gen consoles are here. The scenery could be beautiful at times and terrifying the next. We loved the touch of evil where ever Sebastian would end up. With Ruvik appearing ever so often out of nowhere, to the changing scenery, it gives us a truly unique twist on an old genre of gaming.

The Enemies

Each enemy in 'The Evil Within' had their own strengths and weaknesses throughout the game. Not only that the boss battles forced you to use your head and change your strategies for each one, for example one boss could be most affected by fire, where another boss could be immune to it. This made us very wary of what ammunition to save, as you never know when, where or which boss you were going to encounter. Not only were they well thought out, but with their ability to instantly kill you no matter how much health you were on, as well as their speed. Strategies were a must have. During these particular fights it gave you no time to slow down and kept your heart rate up. Here are our favourite bosses within the game.

The Story Plot

We loved the story line of 'The Evil Within'. It was proper psychological horror which could make Dracula tap dance to the rhythm of your heart beat. Ruvik truly makes you feel that you’re not getting out of this alive. we feel Bethesda has created one hell of a villain. People may say that the game play is similar to other survival horror games such as 'Resident Evil' and 'Silent Hill'. But story was totally unique. Even though at times it was super poop-yourself scary, the story would keep you coming back for more. The story line also keeps you guessing at what's going to happen next, or who the main culprit is. Like watching an episode of Miss Marple! With the disappointment of recent story lines we feel this game came just in time. Good job Bethesda!

Bad Points

The Glitches within

Unfortunately this game did experience a lot of glitches. From enemies falling into the map, to the sound completely disappearing. There are a few glitches that may have you pulling out your hair. Although from our experience with 'The Evil Within' the glitches did not put us off the game but some parts had to be replayed.

Melee Lock-on

As ammunition was rare in some chapters of 'The Evil Within' melee attacks did come in handy. However we felt that a lock on was needed as sometimes Sebastian would swing his fists around without making contact with anything. Which did get very frustrating.

Dodging

With encountering enemies that can instant kill you, dodging should have been an essential part of the game. Many times we found ourselves stuck in a corner with no way out, with a dodge button on the controller this could have helped in certain situations.

This might just be us picking out faults however and didn't take anything away from the playing experience we just felt these bad points were enough to mention to you guys!
